Placeholder ImageWhat Steps to Take Before Performing Exterior Painting in Cold Weather There are some measures that you are able to take to ensure exterior painting gets done without problems.

With the temperatures getting much lower, attempting certain yard projects gets more complicated. One of these yard projects that you might be tackling is the painting of your house. If you don’t take the right precautions, an exterior painting job could go wrong, causing the procedure to waste time and money. There are some measures that you are able to take to ensure exterior painting gets done without problems, though.

Priming

Priming should always be done before you do any exterior painting projects. While there are plenty of paints that have priming built into them, that’s not the case for all of them. Therefore, you should confirm what type of paint you have ahead of time and use an effective bonding primer before you do any kind of painting, assuming your paint doesn’t have a primer built into it already.

Keep an Eye on the Substrate

Understanding your substrate’s moisture content is important. When the surface on which you want to paint has too much moisture on it, it can be more difficult for paint to stick to the surface. You’ll also want to check the temperature of the surface you’re painting. While the air outside could be 50 degrees Fahrenheit, it’s possible that the temperature of the surface hasn’t reached that same temperature yet. The surface being painted has to reach this temperature before it’s acceptable to start painting. There are some paints that can be used at lower temperatures, such as 35 degrees Fahrenheit, but you should confirm that they will be fine at that temperature before you begin painting.

Do Exterior Painting in the Middle of the Day

Preparation is best done early in the morning and during the late afternoon. Exterior painting should be done in the middle of the day because the surface will have had more time to warm up in the morning, and the paint will have the time it needs to cure before the evening hours when the temperatures start to drop.

Always Make Sure to Factor in the Wind

Temperature isn’t the only outdoor factor to monitor; you also have to keep track of the wind. The wind’s speed and direction can influence the temperature of the substrate that you’re going to be painting.

When you’re trying to get exterior painting done in colder temperatures like we’re experiencing now, keep track of the wind direction and how much force it has because the temperature of your substrate could be impacted.

So great to work with. Have had the pleasure of working with both sons who were knowledgeable and courteous. The entire process was easy from estimate to completion of my new deck. Both arrived on time, had my estimate for both deck and basement remodel in a couple of days. Danny, the project manager arrived on time and explained the plans, the work crew were amazing. Old deck demolished and beautiful new composite in its place in less than 2 days. Tiffany, the office manager is prompt in responding to all emails with courteous knowledgeable answers. They make you feel like you are their only customer. Look forward to working with them for my basement remodel. I 100% recommend this company.

We needed a fence as fast as possible for 5 rescue dogs that we took on. Albaugh and Sons was able to provide a great quote and a speedy installation. My wife and I love the new fence. It has literally improved our day to day lives by being able to let the dogs run free in the back. The materials were perfect and high quality. I would definitely recommend them to friends and family.

I hired Albaugh and Sons to tear out our old deck and replace it with a new composite deck/ screened porch. The front office was a pleasure to deal with and kept my wife and I informed on everything. The crew did an amazing job every step of the way. I was especially impressed with their finish work. The attention to detail was impressive! What I also liked Albaugh and Sons is they had a project manager (Danny) who would occasionally pop over and answer questions and would also keep me updated on progress. I would highly recommend hiring Albaugh and Sons for any of your fence/ deck / home improvement needs.

We are very pleased with the work done by Albaugh and sons. We had them replace our side porch and they did excellent work and built it to our request. Also had them install a three tier rail fence around our property. It is excellent and looks great. We thank Danny and his deck crew and George and his fence crew for their excellent work. I recommend them for any projects you need done. Thank you very much!!
