Placeholder ImageHow You Can Repair Small Holes and Cracks That Your Vinyl Fence Has Here is how you can repair your vinyl fence if you see holes or cracks in it.

Vinyl fencing has been known for its great appearance, sturdiness, and fair pricing. It is made from materials that don’t require much upkeep to remain in good condition, meaning not much effort is needed to get a good-looking fence. With that said, there are ways your vinyl fence can get damaged. Strong temperatures, both heat and cold, can do a number to your fencing. Once your fence is damaged, it becomes easier to accumulate additional damage if you don’t act quickly. Swift repairs are a must to avoid too much damage. Here is how you can repair your vinyl fence if you see holes or cracks in it.

Carve Away Any Rough Edges Your Vinyl Fence Has

The first step you should take towards fixing a vinyl fence with cracks and holes is to get rid of the rough edges. Splinters and burrs are a nuisance and can make it tougher for you to repair the fence. They also look unsightly for your fence.

A utility knife should be your tool of choice for smoothing out these rough edges. If you cut a bevel along your vinyl’s edge, you’ll have a much easier time applying filler later.

Sand the Damaged Areas

With 200-grit sandpaper in hand, you can begin smoothing out all of the damaged spots on your vinyl fence. Once you’ve taken care of whatever rough areas you missed previously, you can switch to 400-grit sandpaper to continue with the smoothing process.

Get the Immediate Repair Area Cleaned

If you have a hole that exceeds an eighth of an inch in width, a backing will be needed for your filler. If you don’t do this, the filler is going to sag or possibly even fall out of your fence’s opening entirely. This type of job is best handled with a spray foam that helps insulate people’s homes.

Just be sure you are constantly stopping to check if you’ve filled the holes. You don’t want to overfill the holes because bulging can occur, and you can end up warping plastic.

Once the opening has been filled, use a cloth soaked with alcohol to wipe off all of the foam that spilled. Then, allow the foam to dry.

Seal Your Opening and Repaint the Repaired Spaces

After your foam spray has dried, an auto body filler is needed to keep the opening sealed and for blending the newly repaired space with the rest of your fence. A putty knife blade should be used to apply your filler. Don’t let any gaps form between your filler, the foam, or the edges of your plastic. Once you’ve applied the filler, wipe away any leftover putty. It may be in your best interest to use a flashlight to make sure there aren’t any spots you missed. Once you like the results, use a clean, dry cloth to wipe your fence down.

Lastly, paint the previously damaged area. The paint you use should be capable of sticking to vinyl, or you can elect to apply a primer coat before painting. A primer coat helps with adhesion.

So great to work with. Have had the pleasure of working with both sons who were knowledgeable and courteous. The entire process was easy from estimate to completion of my new deck. Both arrived on time, had my estimate for both deck and basement remodel in a couple of days. Danny, the project manager arrived on time and explained the plans, the work crew were amazing. Old deck demolished and beautiful new composite in its place in less than 2 days. Tiffany, the office manager is prompt in responding to all emails with courteous knowledgeable answers. They make you feel like you are their only customer. Look forward to working with them for my basement remodel. I 100% recommend this company.

I hired Albaugh and Sons to tear out our old deck and replace it with a new composite deck/ screened porch. The front office was a pleasure to deal with and kept my wife and I informed on everything. The crew did an amazing job every step of the way. I was especially impressed with their finish work. The attention to detail was impressive! What I also liked Albaugh and Sons is they had a project manager (Danny) who would occasionally pop over and answer questions and would also keep me updated on progress. I would highly recommend hiring Albaugh and Sons for any of your fence/ deck / home improvement needs.
